A covered patio addition in Lafayette, built over the existing concrete slab at the back of the house.
The cover is a gable roof framed to tie into the back wall of the home, with white fascia and soffit and a ridge running straight out from the house, so the roofline reads as part of the original build instead of something added later. White wrapped posts carry it at the edge of the slab, which keeps the space underneath open.
Gutters and downspouts were run and matched to the existing ones. That is the part people skip, and without it everything the new roof sheds lands at the slab edge and works its way back toward the foundation. A ceiling fan with a light was mounted at the peak and a lantern fixture went in beside the sliding door.
The result is a shaded, dry place to sit that opens straight into the house through the slider that was already there.
